Presence: A Meditation on Christ Matte Stretched Canvas Print

An original fine art work by Ashley Rasmusson also known as Ashlee Sunshine founder of Rising After Loss.

From Ashley:

This image was born during one of the darkest periods of my life.

While navigating profound grief from losing my partner, I entered a deep state of daily meditation and one day experienced an image of the face of Jesus Christ emerging from the darkness. His presence felt peaceful, compassionate, loving and protective—a place of stillness in the midst of overwhelming pain.

I carried that image with me long after the meditation ended.

Eventually, I created this artwork as closely as I could to the face she had seen in my mind. It has since become part of my daily spiritual practice. When I pray and meditate, I return to this image. I hold the face of Christ in my mind and allow it to bring my attention back to His presence when I am moving through grief, fear, suffering or the battles within myself.

The darkness surrounding Christ is intentional. To me, it represents the places we enter when life becomes almost unbearably painful. Yet His face remains illuminated—not separate from the darkness, but present within it.

This piece represents what meditation on Christ has come to mean to me: returning again and again to His love, compassion, protection and peace.

It is a reminder that even in our darkest moments, we can turn our attention toward the presence of Christ and find a place of stillness within Him.

A matte stretched canvas that brings quiet reverence to a room. The deep, velvety tones and soft highlights render the contemplative portrait with museum-like depth, absorbing light and inviting slow looking. Hung above a mantel or settled into a reading nook, this piece creates a calm, reflective corner where evening prayers, journaling, or gentle conversation feel naturally held. The subtle texture of the canvas and the narrow 1.25" profile keep the image intimate and tactile, while the subdued palette blends with warm woods and candlelight to create a meditative atmosphere.
